Happy New Year 2025!

New Year, New Start. Or so they say. Let’s test this then . . . .

Welcome to my new blog! It’s a place for me to stretch out and share with you my interests and ideas. Some things about me: I’m . . .

  1. A Public Librarian in Massachusetts Library. Doing what I love the most and being encouraged to do it!
  2. A Tabletop Gamer since 1979. Play boardgames, wargames, and tabletop roleplaying games. Grew up in Wisconsin near TSR (among other places). And yes, I started out playing D&D 1E.
  3. A Genre Reader since childhood. I’ve always found realistic fiction rather limited and dull. I love reading stuff that stretches my imagination, such as Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. Though I do like a really good caper, espionage or historical novel (real sucker for a Roman epic!).
  4. A Language Nerd. My second language is French. But I’ve studying all the Romance languages to some degree, more or less, plus Latin. For me, language is a window into another culture. Plus it’s fun, and I love the mouth-feel of words. I dabble with other languages, both real and constructed.

What am I up to now?

After forty-plus years of playing D&D, I’ve finally started to DM it. And I’m loving it. I run a monthly game for adults at the Library, and I’m running a 1:1 game for my younger brother who lives in New Jersey. More about that later. My adult campaign is transitioning from Greyhawk to the Infinite Staircase.

And I’m also playing me some solo Marvel Heroic Roleplaying. Right now I’m playing through MHRP’s first official Event, Breakout. You can check my Obsidian Portal site for it here:

I’m also running MHRP for adults at the Library. This Thursday night, we’ll be starting out running the first scene for the official Event Annihilation! (originally published only as a PDF). They’re going to start out at the Kyln, where they must survive the First Wave of the Annihilation fleet emerging from the rift between the Marvel Universe and the Negative Zone.

Finally, I’ll be doing a Shakespeare Drama Workshop at the Library — which I’m calling De-Mystifying Shakespeare. ‘Cos who’s afraid of Shakespeare? Everyone is. We’re going to be doing some scenes from Twelfth Night in honor of the Winter Holiday Season.

So, yeah, I’m keeping myself rather busy . . . !
